Electric cars have responsive acceleration, regenerative braking, and improved handling with their lower centre of gravity. And due to the absence of an engine, electric cars quietly provide a peaceful, comfortable driving experience.

Fully-electric cars are exempt from paying VED, while plug-in hybrid cars (emitting less than 51g/km of CO2) are exempt from paying their first year of VED. In subsequent years, plug-in hybrid vehicles pay a reduced rate.¹

The low or zero emissions from electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles will mean lower charges in the Clean Air Zones being implemented in many UK cities and the Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) in London.

Company car drivers are charged lower Benefit in Kind (BiK) rates on plug-in hybrid and electric vehicles. Drivers of fully electric vehicles do not incur a BiK charge for electricity usage while charging their cars at work.
