Audi A3 Saloon to get hybrid and coupe looks
The Audi A3 Saloon has had a makeover! The new Audi A3 Saloon is intended to have a more coupe-like appearance, with subtle changes made over its predecessor in order to change the vehicle from a stylistic standpoint. The new Audi A3 saloon is going to have all of the same technologies as the A3 Sportback that was revealed recently. Yet, it will feature a heavily revised interior, refined suspension, and hybrid powertrains. Read on to discover everything that you need to know.
When it comes to A3 sales in the UK, it is fair to say that the saloon does not account for a large amount of them. In fact, research shows that only one-fifth of UK A3 sales are represented by the saloon vehicle. Nevertheless, this is a bodystyle that is very much a hit in a number of other markets around the world, with China being a prime example. You only need to look at the flurry of new introductions into this segment as of late to see that this is the case. Examples include the Mercedes-Benz A-Class saloon and BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé.
So, what can you expect from the new and improved Audi A3 Saloon? Well, it is going to be taller, wider, and longer than before. This means you’re going to have more elbow room and around an extra 2cm of head room in the front of the vehicle. The size of the boot is going to remain the same, with 425 litres of space on offer. The car will sit on the same platform as the latest Volkswagen Golf; the updated MQD platform. It is believed that this platform is more rigid yet lighter than the one that it is going to replace.
There are some other improvements that we can expect to see with this vehicle as well. This includes the digital daytime running lights, which consists of 15 LEDs. Moreover, to set some of the trims apart, they will have an individual light signature on them.
The large diffusers and higher rear end mean that you can expect improved aerodynamics as well. The Cd value is 0.04 better than the outgoing model as well, achieving a value of 0.25 overall. Airflow will also be regulated according to the situation thanks to the controllable cooling air inlet, which has a pair of electrically actuated louvre modules situated behind the grille. You have a number of different engine choices as well, yet the engine that everyone is talking about is the TFSI petrol unit, with 1.5-litre capacity and 148bhp, which comes with 48V mild-hybrid technology. This is the engine that was first introduced in the Sportback version of the A3.
So there you have it: everything that you need to know about the updates that have been made to the new Audi A3 Saloon. We are certainly excited to see this vehicle released onto the market. Do you think that the stylistic updates to the Audi A3 Saloon are going to be a hit?
